About
I am currently an Assistant Professor in the department of African American Studies at the University of Maryland.
Research Interests
My primary scholarly focuses concentrate on the impacts of racial identity in American Political Institutions and the the ramifications of descriptive representation on the policy process
Teaching
I build off a decade's worth of teaching experience in secondary schools in the Houston, TX area to create a learning atmosphere that engaging and entertaining while, at the same time, rigorous and challenging. At the collegiate level I have taught several courses for the Department of Political Science as well as African and African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma, including Intro to American Federal Government and Hip Hop and American Politics.
Engage!
"Amazing instructor with amazing teaching skill, he made the boring class material interesting. You can learn a lot about American federal government and become knowledgeable about politics in general from this class, even if you are not interested in politics at all."

Encourage!
"Professor really encourages you to think from all perspectives, stand in someone else's shoes. Makes a friendly atmosphere in the class encourages groupwork and getting to know your classmates."

Promote Critical Thinking!
"One of the best instructors I've had at OU. He made a bland topic interesting and encouraged thinking outside the box. I would recommend this professor for any other student who needs to take American Government."
